Financial waste is when you pay 10 times as much as you should for substandard returns. Or your patience with a ‘buy and hold’ mutual fund is rewarded with returns not even close to expectations, or any known benchmark. Investor returns are far lower than mutual fund and benchmark returns. US industry figures show that the average mutual fund investor gets less than ¼ of benchmark returns. No wonder Canada’s investment industry won’t release our returns; what’s the point of investing in a mutual fund if GIC returns are higher? |
